HR Administrator
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
Sewell Wallis is looking for an HR Administrator to join a professional services business, based on-site just outside York.
You’ll have 4-5 years experience in HR/recruitment and have a good understanding of employment law and HR requirements. It is not necessary that you have a CIPD qualification, but that would benefit an application. This role would suit someone who is keen to progress, learn and get stuck into the business; you’ll have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and work closely with the HR director day to day.
Responsibilities include supporting employee relations and case management, maintaining accurate HR records and systems, processing contracts and leavers, and ensuring compliance with employment legislation and data protection requirements.
What will you be doing?
- Employee Relations: Provide administrative support for employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance and performance cases, arranging meetings, preparing documentation, taking accurate notes and maintaining confidential records.
- Recruitment: Support the end-to-end recruitment process, including preparing job adverts, screening applications, coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates and supporting hiring managers.
- Onboarding & Offboarding: Coordinate new starter processes, including contracts, right-to-work checks, DBS checks where required, inductions and probation reviews, as well as supporting leavers and internal employee changes.
- HR Administration: Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems, including holiday, sickness, absence, contract and employee information, ensuring records are updated accurately and within required deadlines.
- Employee Support: Act as a first point of contact for routine HR queries, providing support to employees and managers regarding HR processes, policies, pay, benefits and employment documentation.
- Training & Compliance: Coordinate training and e-learning activities, support performance and absence management, maintain HR policies and job descriptions, and assist with health and safety and compliance activities.
- Payroll & Benefits: Support payroll, benefits, salary reviews and employee changes by providing accurate information, preparing documentation and liaising with relevant internal teams.
- Reporting & Data Protection: Prepare HR reports and metrics, maintain effective filing and document retention systems, and ensure HR processes and records comply with data protection, confidentiality and internal policies.
What skills are we looking for?
- Strong administrative and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with a helpful and approachable manner.
- Experience working in a human resources or business administration environment.
- Basic understanding of UK employment legislation and HR policies.
- Experience supporting or coordinating meetings, particularly those involving employee relations.
- Studying toward or holding a CIPD Level 3 qualification (or interest in pursuing it).
- Live locally to the office, near York, with your own transport.
What's on offer?
- £28,000 - £30,000 starting salary
- 20 days annual leave plus 8 statutory bank holidays (pro rata in the first year and if part-time), rising to 30 days (after time served), with the addition of Christmas shutdown and your birthday off!
- Company pension scheme
- Company sick pay
- Parking available
