Turning a senior-level relationship into a transactional-level win

We'd already earned this client's trust through senior-level recruitment. When a transactional-level role came up, they came straight back to Inci, who used what she already knew about the business to get her shortlist over the line first.

The Challenge

A leading international law firm had already worked with Sewell Wallis on a number of senior-level recruitment assignments, and the relationship between Inci and the hiring team was solid. So when a transactional-level vacancy came up, the client approached Sewell Wallis, despite us only ever having filled senior roles for them, and specifically asked to work with Inci again, due to the trust they'd built up during those previous assignments.

The role was competitive; the client had briefed several agencies at the same time, which was their usual approach. This meant it was a bit of a scramble to find and present the right candidates - ensuring they had both the technical skills to succeed in the role, and the right fit when it came to culture and mindset.

Our Approach

Due to Inci having recruited at the senior level for this client, she had a strong understanding of how the business worked and what it was like on the inside. She knew the kinds of candidates the business was looking for, and what the culture felt like from day to day.

Having that head start meant she was able to rule out candidates that, otherwise, she might have shortlisted. She moved quickly, drawing on the previous placements she had made to engage candidates who had the technical know-how that the role demanded, as well as knowing that they'd fit into the wider finance team.

With a role like this, with multiple agencies all pulling from the same talent pool, being first mattered, and Inci's shortlist landed in the client's inbox ahead of the other agencies engaged in the search.

The Outcome

For an entry-level position like this, the client wanted someone who did have some technical expertise, and interest in a finance role, but they also wanted to make sure personality and potential were taken into account.

Their ideal candidate was a graduate with the drive to grow into the role, so Inci focused her search on cultural fit as much as capability, filtering out candidates who were not suitable to this brief and style of working.

From a shortlist of five candidates, two were invited to interview, and one was successfully placed.
