About the Role

Sewell Wallis is pleased to be working with a well-established business based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, who are looking to recruit a Credit Controller to join their finance team. This role is perfect for someone confident and resilient, who enjoys the communication and relationship side of credit control, with daily interaction with customers to secure payments and manage account balances.

This Credit Controller position would suit someone who confident on the phone, organised in their approach and experienced in credit control/collections, who is looking for a stable role within a supportive finance function. This could also be a great opportunity for someone wanting to gain exposure to finance with a background in phone-based customer service.

What will you be doing?

  • Making a high volume of daily outbound calls to customers to chase overdue payments.
  • Sending payment reminders and statements via email and telephone.
  • Handling payment disputes and negotiating resolutions to secure payment.
  • Monitoring customer credit limits and escalating high-risk accounts.
  • Posting and allocating customer payments accurately in the financial system.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all collections activity and follow-up actions.
  • Providing insight and feedback on credit control activity to support the wider finance team

What skills are we looking for?

  • Previous experience in credit control, collections, telephone negotiation or accounts receivable is highly desirable.
  • Confident, professional communication skills and a persuasive phone manner.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to accurately record collection activity.
  • Organised, resilient and able to work to targets and deadlines.
  • Basic financial system knowledge and strong Excel skills.
  • Comfortable speaking with customers regularly to resolve payment issues
