Health and Safety Manager

Sewell Wallis are delighted to be working with a growing business based on the outskirts of Sheffield, who are looking to bring in an experienced Health and Safety Manager.

This is a diverse role and would a candidate who has a background working in a similar position in the manufacturing/production/foundry industry. This will be a hands-on role that will also involve travel to other business sites across Europe and North America.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Plant Manager, EHS Director, Sales and Logistics Manager and Maintenance team to ensure environment, health and safety are always first priority on site.

Main tasks/responsibilities
General:
- Conduct training in the deviation system Synergi
- In cooperation with the quality manager establish a plan for internal audits
- Follow up nonconformities/nonconformity systems and conduct action audits
- Ensure all documents and relevant information is stored securely
- Be conversant with all company corporate and UK legal standards and ensure compliance
- Reporting of EHS results to corporate
- To drive Environment health and safety continuous improvements
- Participate in EHS audits of the plant and other sites globally

Environment:
- Ensure that the site complies with all relevant laws and regulations relating to the external environment
- Ensuring that the site complies with ISO 14001
- Map and risk assess all environmental aspects of the site and maintain/update information on significant environmental aspects.
- Assist with risk mapping and risk assessments of processes
- Ensure that the site is in legal compliance to operate at all times
- Establish and operate measurement programs for the site
- Driving energy and Co2 reduction at the site
- Responsibility for the energy management system
- Operate and report emissions
- Conduct training in external environmental/environmental aspects for employees
- Responsible for all environmental audits, including that these are included in Synergi.
- Responsibility for hazardous waste
- Participate in the external environmental forum/gatherings as a representative of the site

Health:
- Assist in implementing and following up all employee health monitoring schemes
- Coordinate and carry out occupational hygiene surveys in accordance with regulations, group requirements and when necessary, as well as prepare reports with results.
- Responsible for creating and updating the standard of first aid equipment and supplies
- Ensure the mental health and physical well-being of all operators is followed up


Safety:
- Ensure all corporate standards are met in all relevant areas
- Ensure all relevant training is received, documented and securely stored
- Ensure safety walks and improvements are done daily
- Ensure job observations are conducted and improvements are made to procedures
- Assist in generating and updating SOP'S and risk assessments
- Ensure route cause analysis is performed following deviation from standards, near misses or incidents
- Where required work with CPM teams to improve processes
- Ensure safe job analysis is performed and documented where SOP does not exist
- Perform internal safety audits and regularly update risk assessments
- Drive 5s improvements and audits
- To assist in management of change functions in the plant
- Understanding of safety training and implementation
- Implementation of the new Forus system including self assessment
