We are currently working with our client; a well known, franchise business based in Sheffield with their search for a Group Financial Controller. This is a great opportunity to join an ambitious and growing family run business with the opportunity to report into a dynamic Group Head of Finance in this number two role.

Duties will include;

The management of departmental management accountants and assistant accountants which includes recruitment, supervision, performance management, training and development.
Explore and analyse new business opportunities and/or acquisitions to share with the necessary Department Heads and/or Directors
Ensure effective working capital management with particular emphasis on stock turnover, supplier terms and treasury management.
Set up and ensure maintenance of rolling cash flow forecasts, management of short-term cash position and liaising with the Group's bankers
Set up and maintain rolling 5 yearly financial forecasts
Assistance and maintenance and completion of: VAT records and timely submission of returns
Statutory records and submissions to Companies House
Periodically review the effectiveness of internal accounting control procedures, including operation of periodic reconciliation's.
To ensure that all fixed assets are recorded and accounted for.
Oversee preparation management accounts and financial accounts and budgets in readiness for Directors, banks and the auditors.
Monthly KPI for Ops Team to ensure P & L are not suffered.
To ensure that cash handling policies are maintained and adhered to, ensuring full reporting disclosure of cash variances on a weekly basis.
Provide financial information to departmental heads, which is understandable, relevant, timely and appropriate to their needs.
To challenge the thinking of Department Heads and make them aware of the financial implications of their decisions and departmental performance. To assist them improve financial performance, help identify opportunities and motivate them towards achieving the corporate financial goals.
Provide periodic management accounts and annual financial accounts to the Groups' banks, auditors and other users of the company accounts on a timely basis.
Explain financial performance to the Groups' bankers, communicate the company's objectives and instil confidence in the financial position.
Explain financial performance to the Franchisors (only when approved by the MD), communicate the company's objectives and instil confidence in the financial position.
Ensure statutory returns to Inland Revenue, Customs, Companies House etc, are accurately prepared and filed on a timely basis
Provide commentary of the financial performance including return on capital invested and gearing risk.
Report control weaknesses and make recommendations for corrections.
Highlight financial trends as they appear and advise the Board on appropriate responses.
Contribute towards the strategic planning process, financial analysis of business development proposals and formulating final plans into financial forecasts.
Determining the funding requirements of the strategic plan and formulating proposals for meeting those requirements.
Negotiating with financial institutions to raise the necessary funds.
Overseeing the annual budgetary process and agreeing budgets with department heads.
Monitoring and reporting budgetary performance to budget holders
Assist budget holders to formulate responses to budgetary variances.
Liaising with department heads on product pricing and procurement negotiations

Suitable candidates;

Highly computer literate, able to adapt to new accounting software, including gaining a detailed knowledge of external EPOS systems for different brands
Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
Able to work in a fast paced environment
Able to manage a team of 10 +
Able to automate many current "input" systems
Meet deadlines for Period (4 weekly), quarterly and year end
Develop and foster strong relationships with key personnel
